Curtain rods aren't exactly the most exciting part of the house, but they do provide an important function - both physically but also aesthetically. If you don't choose the right curtain rods for your room then they are going to stand out like a sore thumb no matter how perfect everything else matches each other. Curtain rods can either be modern, traditional, elegant or a bit of a novelty so you need to decide before you buy them exactly what you need. But how do you know what you need? How do you know you are buying the right ones for your house or room? The short answer is it really does come down to personal taste, but there are some things you can look out for which we'll be going through in this article as well as various other factors such as type - be it decorative, shower curtain rods, etc - price and where to buy.

Curtain Rods Prices

Like anything there is a wide range of prices for curtain rods, but they certainly aren't as expensive as other household items such as sofas and tables so it shouldn't be a problem if you are redecorating. For example a popular shop the UK is IKEA which sells curtain rod sets for anywhere between £5.00 and £20.00. Of course if you want the ultra high market rods then you'll have to be willing to pay more but in most cases that won't be necessary.

Choosing a curtain rod

With most household items you get what you pay for, meaning that if you buy the cheapest item it probably isn't going to last very long or look that good. With curtain rods things are a bit different because they are not going to be touched or seen a lot of the time by you or your guests, so as long as they are of a reasonable quality you should be fine. Of course if you want antique ones or rods made out of an expensive material then things are a little bit different. Decorative curtain rods may be a bit more expensive but it does depend completely on what type you buy and what your budget is. Like anything you should already have an idea in your head of how much you are willing to spend and not go over that limit otherwise you could be spending money that you don't have. We all know how easy it is to go buying for furniture and see something we really like, then keep stretching the budget to get something we can't afford. With curtain rails for your windows or for the shower this isn't so much of a problem but you should still be aware of it, even though they are quite low priced items.

Like buying anything though you should make sure you are getting the write product at the right price before buying. Make sure you measure your room thoroughly and check it several times before buying a rod that won't fit - it can happen! Shop around the best deals to see what you can find - the internet is good for this of course. In the UK shops such as IKEA and Argos have a wide range at affordable prices. If they are having a special discount weekend then this is the time to buy as you can get some great deals!

Types of Rods

To most people a rod is a rod, but there are different types. The most obvious variation is the shower curtain rod which of course hides our dignity in the shower while also keeping the water from spilling all over the floor. This is a lot different because it must be able to stand up to constantly getting wet while also being adjustable if required.
Tension curtain rods are another example of a useful variation. These extend outwards themselves and hence you can place them between two walls and they will be the right length to stay in so you don't have to buy for the exact measurement of the room - you have some leeway. These are good for shower curtains especially where you want the curtain to go the whole length of the bath, but may not look so good inside or on regular windows but it is a completely personal choice of course. In most cases tension rods aren't especially more expensive but you should have a look around and try and find the best deal.
