Because nothing beats a good cup of coffee

Having an amazing cup of coffee is one things, but having it on an amazing coffee table is even better! This is especially true if you are entertaining guests as it provides a place to put your cup, as well as things such as magazines and other items that can be used to spruce up the room and make it more interesting.

If you are looking for a new table to put your coffee then this hub aims to provide you with an overview of just some of the types you may consider as well as some advice about which ones are suitable for your household and family.

Take your time while searching for a coffe table as you never know when you will find one that is your favourite, or one that is good enough at a lower price than you thought possible. The internet is a great place to start but make sure you go to actual shops too.

Coffee table example

So what is a coffee table?

First of all, how do you define a coffee table and what makes it different from any other? It may seem an obvious question but it's worth briefly going over anyway. These kind of tables are usually quite small, rectangular and low to the ground and are usually used for holding cups, magazines and other things that are often wanted regularly. They are usually found inthe living room but of course you can have them wherever you want!

First of all.....Glass Coffee Tables

Glass coffee tables can be stunning additions to your living room but they are also very delicate! That means they probably aren't the best kind of table if you have small children for obvious reasons. If you don't have kids or they are grown up now then a glass table will always look great provided you keep it clean and shining.

Glass tables are often a bit more expensive but you can pick one up for only a couple of hundred dollars upwards, and they also come in many shapes and sizes.

The last thing you want is a poor child falling through though, so make sure any children that visit the house are well aware of the table and aren't allowed to play around it!

Oak Coffee Table

Oak coffee tables have a completely different style and look to glass ones. There are exceptions, but they tend to look more tradional whereas glass ones are more modern and stylish. This means that you should decide on the type of table based around the decor of your house at the moment. Make sure you get one wthat fits in with your overall theme otherwise it will stand out like a sore thumb which is definitely not what you want!

Oak tables can be quite cheap - I've seen one of the internet for only $75 and that got great revies - but they can range to much more expensive depending on whether you get light or heavy oak.

Needless to say, oak coffee tables are much more sturdy then their glass counterparts so you don't need to worry about them around the kids - although they will stain with liquid easily so you need to be somewhat careful around them.

Now for the classic lift top

Now we've talked about oak and glass tables, we can go into a different kind of design that isn't limited to a type of material but can be very useful. If you're anything like me you'll always struggle for storage space! Lift top coffee tables take care of this by providing you with an extra storage spacve that would usually be unused under the coffee table. If you have an oak table on one will even know it is there!

A quick search on the internet shows that these are often more expensive just because of the design and the fact the usually more wood is needed, but you can still get a good one for a few hundred dollars.

Choosing a coffee table

The reality is there are many other types of coffee table to choose, be it pine, black glass, marble and many more. You also need to think about what shape you want and how modern you want it to look. I bet you didn't realise choosing a simple table would be this hard!

There are many other factors that come into the decision, such as whether you want an adjustable height coffee table, an antique table to fit in with your houses decor or something completely different like a novelty coffee table. A lot will depend on your budget and the decoration of your house at the moment.

The main thing is to enjoy choosing, don't worry about making the wrong decision and go with what your heart says!
